During my summer internship at Wrmth, I worked closely with the production side of the company and also completed a larger term project.
A lot of my day-to-day work involved operating CNC equipment, supporting production, improving CAM processes, and looking for ways to make the workflow more efficient and consistent. I also created and updated several standard operating procedures so that common production tasks were easier to repeat and document.
My main project was the design and development of a paste-extrusion system for a 3D printer built around a robotic arm. I designed the extrusion setup, developed a working prototype, prepared the supporting documentation, and demonstrated how the system operated.
The internship gave me a good mix of production work and independent development. I was able to see how small process improvements affect everyday manufacturing, while also taking a larger project from an initial idea to a working prototype.
